Depicts:-  The Ascension
Designed And Installed By:- Philip Handel  Easter Day 1981
In Memory Of:-  The Cherry Family And  Alice Sarah Taylor.

Text And Religious Significance:
The Ascension. The ascent - going up-  of Christ into heaven on the fortieth day after he rose from the dead, 3 days after after he was crucified.
Luke 24: 50-53.
When he (Jesus) had led them (the disciples)out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God. (NIV)

Gift Of And Wording:- This window was the gift of members of two very old Sale families and long time members of St. Paul’s Church. The Cherry name first appears on the Board of Guardians in 1886 while the Taylor name is recorded in 1899.

The wording on the windows are as follows.
A.M.D.G in thanks for  their membership in this congregation since 1857
The gift of the Cherry family A.M.D.G in loving memory of Alice Sarah Taylor 4-12-1882 - 20-7-1968
The gift of Jean Higgs & family

AMDG, is a Latin acronym for Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (For the Greater Glory of God).

William Robert Cherry came to Sale in the very early days of settlement and according to the records there have been five generations of the family who have attended St. Paul’s.

A son of the second William Robert was Richard James - a well known saddler with a business in Raymond Street adjacent to the old National Bank. He was a councillor for some years and later became Mayor. Richard J. Cherry loved his church and devoted his life to its highest service - he was elected to the Board of Guardians in 1890 and from the first took an active interest in its affairs, both material and spiritual. When this church was consecrated in 1907, he was elected as a first church warden, but possibly his greatest work was in the Sunday School of which he was superintendent for about thirty years.

His son was another William Robert and then followed Bruce - wife Lorna, son Robert Bruce Cherry.LHS 2 ALL

FROM ROUND WINDOW IN HALL. Fish and fishing is an important part of Gippsland, as was in Jesus' time.
This font was brought from the old St Paul's church, and has been moved to different places around the cathedral.
LOOK UP! Did you know the roof is designed like an upside down boat, and the 'nave' where people sit, comes from the same word as naval?
This cathedral was the second 'St Paul's' Church built in Sale. It is the 'mother church' of the Anglican Diocese of Gippsland.
"Music Window :- Philip Handel 1981 It features the music score of Handel's "Water Music". The artist was a relative of the famous musician, Handel.
